Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a devoted sun-worshipper. Any little patch of sunlight, and I’ll be in it – so it may come as a surprise that I’m actually kinda looking forward to autumn. That’s mainly because I have two weddings to go to! One is in a gorgeous rustic barn in Lancashire; the other is a small laid-back affair in my native Essex. The two settings couldn’t be more different, and it got me thinking about all the wonderful places in which couples can tie the knot. To see our pick of the region’s best venues, turn to page 19.
For any of you lovely readers who are getting married next summer, you’ve probably started thinking about the one. No, not your partner – the dress! Our fabulous fashion editor, Claire Ridley, has pulled together an amazing selection of swoon-worthy gowns on page 77, all taking inspiration from a bygone era. We’re lucky enough to have a host of talented and creative people in the region, so it makes sense that couples are embracing the trend for locally sourced products when it comes to their weddings. Turn to page 65 for our Handmade in Bristol & Somerset feature.
As always, we’ve got our Hot Topic Q&A feature over on page 109, where our local experts answer your burning questions. If you need some w-day advice, don’t hesitate to drop us a line!

Bailbrook House Hotel
Set on a Bath hillside, Bailbrook House Hotel is the perfect fairytale venue. Overlooking glorious landscapes of the city and Avon Valley, its idyllic gardens and lovers’ seat provide endless photo opportunities. This country house greets visitors with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Vows can be taken in front of up to 130 witnesses in one of five licensed rooms. The Princess Elizabeth, Duke of Clarence and Queen Charlotte rooms are all set within the historic house and can host intimate weddings of up to 65 attendees. For larger affairs, the Lansdown and Brunel Suite are spacious, contemporary areas that can host up to 130 people for ceremonies.
There are a wide variety of reception spaces for two to 200 partygoers. Drinks can be enjoyed in the Conservatory Bar, which spills out on to the lawns outside. The Front Terrace boasts spectacular vistas, and the Royal Lounge is situated within the Georgian house. For the wedding breakfast, guests will enjoy a high standard of catering in one of three sumptuous suites or two fine-dining restaurants.
Brides and grooms will benefit from a free menu tasting before the big day, and there are 13 individually decorated bedrooms to choose from for their wedding night.
