For most newlyweds, the honeymoon offers the trip of a lifetime; an intimate and unforgettable holiday to be cherished for years to come. Whether you're looking for peace and quiet or adventure, the beach or the city, sun or snow, there are an abundance of beautiful locations waiting to be discovered for a romantic adventure.

Experts from the diverse range of travel companies exhibiting and some of the expert speakers from Destinations: The Holiday & Travel Show, the UK's leading and longest-running travel event, have shared their recommendations of the most romantic destinations to honeymoon in 2020.

Destinations: The Holiday & Travel Show will return to Olympia London for the 27th year from Thursday 30th January until Sunday 2nd February and for its 9th year at EventCity Manchester from Thursday 16th until Sunday 19th January.

Star Clippers Tall Ship Cruises
Fay McCormack, General Manager at Star Clippers UK, says: "Star Clippers tall ships provide a hugely romantic setting for a couple, a honeymoon or even a wedding blessing conducted by the captain at sunset on the deck, with the open sea as a backdrop. Make footprints in the sand on pristine beaches in Asia, lie together in the bow-sprit net, star-gaze from the open decks in the inky night, spot dolphins swimming alongside the bow, and fall asleep in a traditional and elegant cabin to the gentle rocking of the waves and the sound of the sea."

Best-Served Scandinavia: Stockholm + Kabin
Sue McAlinden, of Best Served Scandinavia experts in Scandinavian travel, says: "Mini-moons and shorter breaks or honeymoons are popular trends with an adventure element. We always recommend the ICEHOTEL and Treehotel during winter, though it is still an option during summer under the Midnight Sun. In the colder months they are ideal locations for watching the Northern Lights from a hot tub, husky sledding through the forests, and private dining by the fire in the snowy wilderness."

Imagine Travel
Africa
Matt Gammon, Africa Specialist from Imagine Travel, says: "Masai Mara and Zanzibar is the classic safari and beach combination. Honeymooners can enjoy a wonderful safari in the world renowned Masai Mara, before heading over to Zanzibar to soak up the culture of Stone Town and relax on the divine beaches which the island is famous for.

Alternatively, Kruger, Cape Town and Mauritius provide a fabulous honeymoon itinerary that combine an unforgettable safari in the Kruger, a few days of indulging in the world-class food and wine of Cape Town, and some serious relaxation in Mauritius.

Asia
Experience the best of Sri Lanka and the Maldives on a luxurious journey staying at the finest handpicked hotels along the way. Take in Sri Lanka's ancient cities and tea plantations before flying to one of the Maldives' most spectacular islands.

Central/South America
With its winning combination of pretty colonial towns, lively nightlife, cute boutique hotels, remote hideaways and secluded coastal spots, Colombia is the perfect place for those looking for something a little different on their honeymoon."

Pioneer Expeditions: Eco-Moons
Laurenne Mansbridge, Director at Pioneer Expeditions, says: "A big trend for 2020 will be sustainable 'eco-moons'. With that in mind, couples who want to travel far and wide to new and exciting destinations will be mindful when it comes down to where they stay. We ensure their accommodation has sustainable practices in place, as well as sourcing local produce and supporting small local businesses.

We currently offer honeymoon specific trips in both Madagascar and Costa Rica; however, these trips are only a rough guide and we can create a tailormade holiday for anyone. Our luxury Madagascar honeymoon itinerary includes two very romantic eco-resorts/lodges. These accommodations have a strong focus on sustainability, from the earth friendly design and construction of the hotel, to the energy and water usage in the hotel, as well as the huge contribution to the sustainability and biodiversity of the environment surrounding them. The hotels and locals also aim to educate and improve the customers awareness of the environment around them to ensure they act responsibly where they can too."

TransIndus: Sri Lanka
Amrit Singh, Managing Director at TransIndus, says: "Sri Lanka is a fantastic honeymoon destination as it offers so much. As an island nation there's no shortage of beaches to choose from – and an impressive menu of luxury and boutique resorts to boot – but for couples wanting to create lifelong memories, there's also the chance to spot leopards on safari, watch whales off the coast, ride the scenic toy train through valleys carpeted in tea plantations and explore ancient UNESCO-listed ruins. On our website you can find select itineraries designed specifically for honeymooners.

Indonesia is another great honeymoon destination for similar reasons, plus the fact that it's great value for money. There's culture, history and outdoor pursuits with luxurious hideaways where couples can retreat after a fun-filled day exploring the jungle and marvelling at spectacular temple complexes."

Israel: Ramon Crater
Sharon Ehrlich Bershadsky, Director of Israel Tourism Board for the UK & Ireland, says: "The trend in Israel for honeymooners is to visit the Ramon Crater. Makhtesh Ramon, as it's locally known, is a geological feature shaped by millennia of wind and water in Israel's Negev desert. On the rim of the crater you'll find a spectacular hotel called Beresheet by Isrotel. The hotel's infinity pool overlooks the vast crater and its desert landscape, making for spectacular views that are both romantic and awe-inspiring."

Oasis Overland: group travel
Kate Floyer, Travel Expert at Oasis Overland, says: "Group travel isn't the most obvious of honeymoon ideas, but it's amazing the number of newly-wed couples I've had on my trips! It's an incredible way to have a long honeymoon, and often couples have been given some of the optional excursions as wedding presents – sky dives, safaris – what a great way to start married life! It's also a great way to meet friends around the world, so that if you are embarking on a longer trip, you have more people and places to add to your travels!

Almost all the couples have upgraded to their own private accommodation at some point during the trip (although they do have their own tents), which is easy to do if you want your own space, and it's easy enough to book an extra week at the end so there is somewhere for just the two of you. While it may sound a bit different and it's definitely not for everyone, it's a honeymoon you won't ever forget!"
