August/September 2021

Can you believe we’re now nearing the end of the summer already? Sure, I've enjoyed the longer days, (occasional) sunny conditions and barbecues with friends, but above all I've been delighted by the triumphant return of weddings. And boy, have you all waited long enough! I can’t wait to feature plenty of real weddings in the coming issues and see how your plans have come to life. We’ve all developed a deeper appreciation for the finer things in life over the past 18 months, love being chief among them, and to see it taking centre stage once more is something I’m thrilled about. So, grab your loved ones, hug them as tight as possible and party like it’s 1999! And, when you’ve done that, don’t forget to head over to www.yourbristolsomerset.wedding/get-involved and tell us all about it, so we can spread the joy.

If there’s one thing I do know, it’s that as giddy as you are at the prospect of finally going ahead with your well-deserved dream day, your suppliers will be every bit as cock-a-hoop to be getting back to what they love. They can’t hide their lights under a bushel for long, so as usual; this issue is about showcasing what they do best, so dive in to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Batch County House

Found within award-winning landscaped gardens overlooking the Mendip Hills, this scenic setting offers endless photo opportunities alongside ponds, waterfalls and fountains.

Inside, visitors find a comfortable country house with a traditional farmhouse feel. Extended over many years, the venue features a handcrafted oak bar, cosy lounge areas and ample space for couples to celebrate with their nearest and dearest.

Ceremonies can take place in the Somerset Suite (120 guests). Benefitting from wooden beams, a fireplace and oak doors, it’s full of rustic character. The Garden Gazebo (130 guests) is a pretty al fresco location.

Receptions normally take place in the Ivory Suite (250 guests). This permanent building boasts a private bar and is decorated in a marquee style with ivory drapes and chandeliers. The illuminated ceiling and dancefloor make for a truly magical atmosphere.

There's a fabulous range of mother-of-the-bride outfits at Bellissimo Occasion Wear's new home in Curry Rivel near Langport. "When the pandemic hit and we couldn't open, we started thinking about selling online," owner Caroline Kenshole tells us. "In the end, we decided this wasn't right for our customers. It's the experience you have in the shop with us that counts: feeling the quality of the material and experimenting with styles and colours." In October 2020, Caroline had the opportunity to open a boutique just down the road from her home – but she soon had to close again for another lockdown!
