August/September 2022

W-day is imminent! As the County Wedding Magazines editorial crew prepare to see our beloved senior editor Melissa become a Mrs, we can’t help but be niggled by at least a small sense of shock at just how quickly the big day has come around. Something, I’ve no doubt you’re all experiencing too as your own weddings draw closer.

Christmas Day 2020 feels like only yesterday, when my fellow bridesmaid, Olivia, and I bombarded Melissa with WhatsApp messages: “Has he done it yet? Has he done it yet?” We knew the proposal was imminent you see, and were more than just a tad excited! Boy, have we had an adventure together since: the tears of joy at being asked to be bridesmaids (“Are you sure you want me?”), the fun of shopping for the dresses, and the hilarity of the hen dos (yes plural, she deserves it). The past year-and-a-half has seen us grow closer as friends, not just Melissa, Olivia and I – the three amigos; but also with our gorgeous fellow bridesmaid Nolwenn and the groom, dear Dave. Weddings have a habit of doing that don’t they? Of course, they’re a celebration of love between the all-important couple, but more than that, they allow a much wider expression of love for friends, family and even fur-babies! After all, that’s why we’re all here isn’t it? I know it’s why I spend my days writing about your amazing big days and why I never tire of looking at the resulting photographs. To quote a hero of mine, RuPaul: “Everybody say love.”

I hope you enjoy the oodles of inspiration this issue has to offer. We’ve got two gorgeous styled shoots packed with ideas from the region’s finest wedding suppliers, as well as three incredible real weddings. Plus, there’s plenty of guidance on finishing your look with jewellery and accessories as well as on keeping your guests entertained dawn to dusk. So, dive in!

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Orchardleigh Estate

Orchardleigh is a family-owned country estate boasting a 19th-century stately home, romantic island church, 18-hole golf course and plenty of luxurious accommodation. Set within 500 acres of private parkland and lakes, Orchardleigh House and its accompanying grounds will be exclusively yours for the duration of your wedding day. With expansive gardens and views across the estate and lake, the venue offers no shortage of stunning backdrops for those all-important photographs.

You have the choice of four locations for your vows. Inside there’s The Ballroom (up to 100 guests) and The Great Hall (up to 144 guests). Or outside there’s the option of the venue’s newest ceremony spot, The Belvedere (up to 144 guests) and The Pergola, which can host unlimited numbers. Alternatively, St Mary’s Island church at the heart of the estate, illuminated by candlelight, is an oh-so romantic place to say “I do.”

The Terrace and gardens offer a space for reception drinks with sweeping views across the estate. Ideal for winter wedding receptions, The Great Hall and vestibule have open fires, and the former also offers a great alternative for post-ceremony drinks if it’s too chilly outside. The Ballroom meanwhile, with capacity to seat up to 165 loved ones for the wedding breakfast and 200 for the evening, boasts high ceilings and feature windows and is an elegant space to host your celebrations.
