December/January 2020/2021

It feels like no time since we were celebrating our 70th issue, and now we’re turning the big 8-0. And while celebrations may be a little more subdued this time around (virtual toast, anyone?), we’re still just as excited to have reached this epic milestone!

As we move into 2021, I’m so excited for the weddings I have coming up from last year’s postponements. Being a wedding editor, it probably comes as no surprise that weddings absolutely fill me with joy, so seeing friends and family having to put a halt to celebrations last year was hard – but it does mean we get a bumper 2021 season!

Whether you’ve had to postpone or you’ve always planned to get married in 2021 or beyond, these pages are jam-packed with inspiration to get your day exactly how you want it. In recent months we’ve all come to realise that celebrations with our loved ones are precious, and it’s with renewed love for life that we look forward to this happening again.

With the colder days, it’s time to get snuggled up on the sofa with a cuppa and your favourite wedding magazine (ahem!) and get planning the day of your dreams. We’ve got delicious big-day cakes (page 49), fabulous florals to adorn your venue (page 55) and a round up of the best Bristol and Somerset venues for winter nuptials (page 21).

Enjoy!

The Barn at Cott Farm

With stunning views across the Somerset countryside, The Barn at Cott Farm is nestled in informal grounds that are teeming with cottage-garden blooms in the warmer months. There’s a large lawn for outdoor games, and over a small footbridge is the venue’s camping field. The fire pit and wood-fired pizza oven keep the chill at bay.

The cosy heated barn combines rustic charm with style and comfort. The original doors open to reveal modern tri-folding glass doors, making the entrance flexible in all weathers. The wooden beams are strewn with fairylights, and the coir carpet, handmade wooden furniture and apple-crate bar offer a blank canvas for couples. Windows and skylights flood the space with sunshine during the day, while soft lighting provides a cosy ambience at night.

Couples wishing to take their vows in the great outdoors can do so in front of a congregation of up to 150 under the majestic wooden pergola. For indoor ceremonies, the barn also holds up to 150 loved ones.

In the evening, couples can invite up to 300 of their nearest and dearest to enjoy the whole building and grounds, complete with its large, canopied outdoor area.

Venue hire includes exclusive use from the day before the wedding, making setting up a breeze. Packages include bespoke menus – from sharing platters to traditional three-course meals.
