December/January 2019/2020

Being a winter baby, this time of year has a special place in my heart. As for winter nuptials, well, is there anything more magical? One of my best friends got married at Christmas, and the luxurious decorations, roaring log fire and delicious warming food will forever be in my memory – what a wedding! If you’re just starting your journey and haven’t decided when to get married, then our Winter Wonderland venues feature (page 23) puts forward a pretty good argument for choosing this season!

We have such a treat for you this issue with four incredible styled shoots. One will get you reaching for the mulled wine with its wonderfully seasonal feel (page 97), while another is a drop-dead gorgeous photo shoot set in the picturesque ruins of an old church (page 71). With features on flowers (page 63), cakes (page 55) and Hollywood-inspired dresses (page 79), this issue is an absolute corker!

Aldwick Estate

Not far from bustling Bristol is this country farm venue with panoramic views to the River Yeo, Mendip Hills and Homefield Vineyards. This pastoral beauty sets the scene for memorable photographs. The venue has been described as the perfect marriage of historic and modern; all the charm of a rustic 17th-century farm is happily united with the comforts and efficiency of the 21st century.

The venue comprises two adjacent stone barns linked by a main reception and the inviting brick-walled Cellar Bar to the rear. The barns are licensed for ceremonies with up to 150 guests. The Old Barn boasts architectural features of the bygone dairy farm, while The New Barn – built in 2013 – is a light and open space with neutral interiors waiting to be decorated in accordance with the couple’s taste. Delicious, bespoke menus are provided by Taste Buds Catering and can be designed to complement the bride and groom’s wishes. Wine for the wedding breakfast is produced using grapes grown on-site.

Newlyweds receive a complimentary wedding-night stay in The Forge, a well-appointed apartment situated in the grounds.
