February/March 2021

February/March 2021

Well, 2020 was a year we won’t forget in a hurry! I know we’re not out of the woods, but I feel like 2021 brings renewed hope and excitement for the future. I bought myself two new outfits for weddings I had in the diary last year, which have been left hanging in the wardrobe, and I’m quietly confident I’ll get to pull them out this year!

So how are you finding wedding planning during a pandemic? It’s been a tough ride, but I hope the fact that Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding has been here, celebrating the best of the regions' wedding industry, has helped. We will always bang the drum for local indie businesses, they’ve weathered the storm and supported their couples throughout, now’s the time to support them in return.

For those of you who are newly engaged over the festive period and Valentine’s Day – congratulations and welcome! We’ve got an epic issue for you, including delicious big-day catering (page 55), a round-up of beautiful waterside venues (page 23) and a celebration of showstopping wedding dresses handpicked by our fashion editor (page 65). We love to showcase reader weddings (from page 28), so get in touch if you’d like to see yours featured!

Hestercombe Gardens

The happy couple can enjoy a choice of historic venues within 50 acres of lovingly restored gardens, featuring lakes, light-dappled pathways and stunning views of the Blackdown Hills. The idyllic scenery is tended by a team of skilled gardeners all year round.

The Orangery (90 guests) is a beautiful hamstone building, designed by British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Licensed for ceremonies, it offers an idyllic setting for all styles of wedding and allows brides and grooms to enjoy a light-filled space before spilling out to enjoy drinks on the lawn.

The Bampfylde Hall (150 guests) dates back to 1680. High ceilings and dramatic timber beams make it a fantastic place for a couple to enjoy their ceremony, wedding breakfast and party. The fairy-lit canopy creates a charming atmosphere.

For something a little different, couples can have an open-air wedding in the 18th-century temple (112 guests), which is perched high above the Pear Pond in the Landscape Gardens. A romantic hideaway, it boasts views across to Taunton Vale.
