April/May 2022

Who else can’t believe it’s springtime already? It’s such a special time of year and in 2022 we all get to appreciate it so much more given the last two we’ve spent locked up! This issue we’ve got the usual blend of wedspiration from real weddings to expert advice and ideas including a look at some showstopping couple shots in our photography feature. We’ve also gathered together some of the region’s wise wedding suppliers who offer up their best tips for starting you out on your wedding planning journey.

In our own wedding world here at CMW towers, bride Melissa has been turning her attention to her best gals and we’ve now got our dresses, if not in our hands then on order. It was a bumpy ride, but thanks to Melissa’s unending patience, we got there. We’re now looking at the even more fun stuff such as accessories, shoes, hair and make-up, which has led myself, my fellow bridesmaids and the bride herself to ponder the matter of just whose job it is to foot the bill for the glam? This in no small part is due to the fact none of us seem able to get the lovely Melissa to take one single penny from us towards it. So, when Fragrance Direct told me they’d teamed up with wedding planner Hannah Rose to discuss just this matter, I was all ears!

Thinking about the glam bill, Fragrance Direct asked Hannah whether it was nearlyweds’ responsibility to pay for everyone or just themselves? She answered unequivocally, “Definitely everyone. If they’ve asked for people to be part of their day, the majority of the time this will fall to the couple to pay. Otherwise, their loved ones may be put off joining the wedding party. Some bridesmaids and groomsmen might be happy to contribute, but it’s always encouraged that the couple plan this into their budget and offer to pay for the basics such as hair and make-up if they want them to have it done. The cost will vary depending on the hair stylist and make-up artist, but I’d advise to allocate a minimum of £150-£200 per person for anyone who isn’t the bride or groom.” So, there we have it. We shall immediately cease arguing with the bride and accept her kindness gracefully.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Midelney Manor

Midelney Manor is a beautiful Elizabethan manor house surrounded by 17th-century walled gardens. As you arrive via the hall, you’ll find yourself immersed in a sense of history with its old family portraits, flagstone floors, Persian rugs and baby grand piano.

Intimate “I dos” with 20 guests take place in the Van Wyk Room in the main house. This elegant 18th-century panelled drawing room overlooks the garden and its walls boast an array of paintings and miniature portraits. Larger ceremonies with up to 110 guests are hosted in the Potting Shed, a rustic barn structure in the heart of the gardens. With red-brick walls and exposed beams it’s an original and quirky space. A further ceremony option is Washams Woods. Located at the bottom of the garden, it’s a perfect spot for a magical woodland blessing.

Receptions are hosted in the Round Garden alongside the Potting Shed, where a marquee, tipi or yurt can be set up for up to 150 guests. Alternatively, the versatile Potting Shed can be used as a reception space if weather prohibits the use of the gardens. It offers a fantastic bar lounge area too for guests to chill and relax when the music gets going in the marquee. All in all the venue can host 150 for a wedding breakfast and evening reception. It also offers a wine-tasting at the Manor where you can select your wine and fizz for the day.
