October/November 2021

Well, hello to all you lovely couples of this fine region, and welcome to my very first issue of Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding. I’m excited to bring you the absolute best this area has to offer you for your big day, so let’s dive straight in.

As we get to know each other, there’s one thing you’ll grow to understand about me: there’s only one thing I’m as obsessed with as weddings and that’s Christmas! So, the fact that we’re now well into the autumn has me giddy with excitement already. I adore this season as the colours change and the air starts to cool. What a great time to get married, there’s such a wonderfully romantic atmosphere of promise as the leaves change colour. I love to see what couples and their suppliers come up with in terms of wedding colour palettes at this time of year. My top tip is blush and burgundy – simply gorgeous.

I’m loving being involved with wedding plans myself as Melissa, my dear friend and editor here at CWM, makes plans to tie the knot next July, with yours truly as bridesmaid. She’s already chosen her gown, in which she looks stunning. But what we learned from this experience is not to panic if you don’t instantly burst into tears at the knowledge that it’s the one. If that’s just not you, you’re unlikely to change your entire personality the moment you try on a wedding dress. Sometimes, the realisation that you’ve chosen your dream attire comes from careful deliberation and a process of trying on all silhouettes to know what suits and what doesn’t. Melissa actually a chose a dress that’s the complete opposite of what she thought she’d go for and this is something we hear all the time. Remember: you do you and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

I hope you enjoy this splendid issue and keeep planning!

North Cadbury Court

A luxury stately home set among 1,500 acres of Somerset countryside, North Cadbury Court offers you the freedom to create your own dream wedding. The house, estate and all facilities are exclusively yours for the big day, allowing you and your guests to relax and stay for the weekend in complete privacy. From the grounds you’ll be able to enjoy views of the private lake, down to Cadbury Hill Fort, thought to have been King Arthur’s Court of Camelot.

The main house offers 21 luxury bedrooms and 19 bathrooms, beautiful grounds and gardens, spa wing with heated indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and gym as well as a casino, fully-equipped disco cellar, snooker room, three tennis courts, croquet and three-hole golf course starting from the rooftop. As if all of that wasn’t enough, you’ll also benefit from access to the lovely Yacht Club by the lake, complete with double bedroom, and space for camping on the grounds. Plus, there are four B&B cottages in the converted Coach House, which can sleep a total of 32.

You can exchange your vows in the Ballroom (300 guests), North Hall (150 guests) or the adjacent St Michael’s Church (250 guests). Alternatively, for outdoor “I dos” you have a choice between the Lake Gazebo (150 guests) and the Garden Gazebo (300 guests).

When it comes to the celebrations The North Hall again is a great spot. With its wood-panelled walls and lovely alcove that’s perfect for a bar counter, it’s often used for drinks receptions and can host 100. There’s also the Sitting Room next door, complete with old refectory tables, which can also be used to set up a bar area.

The Morning Room and Library combined can hold 100 loved ones and allow you to easily spill out onto the lawns when the weather is fine. Whereas the log fires add a cosy atmosphere in the winter. Then, when your evening guests arrive you can all hit the dancefloor in the basement disco, where there’s unlimited late-night music.

Everything you need to know about wedding traditions

Traditions have played a huge part in weddings for hundreds of years, with more recent, modern weddings incorporating a mix of both old and new. With the wedding season in full swing, here's some of the most popular wedding traditions, looking at their origins as well as modern alternatives. Here at County Wedding Magazines HQ we still love some of the classics, such as exchanging the rings and having a wedding cake, but would happily say cheerio to the father-daughter dance and throwing the bouquet! Have a read and see how many you want to keep!
