August/September 2021

Can you believe we’re now nearing the end of the summer already? Sure, I've enjoyed the longer days, (occasional) sunny conditions and barbecues with friends, but above all I've been delighted by the triumphant return of weddings. And boy, have you all waited long enough! I can’t wait to feature plenty of real weddings in the coming issues and see how your plans have come to life. We’ve all developed a deeper appreciation for the finer things in life over the past 18 months, love being chief among them, and to see it taking centre stage once more is something I’m thrilled about. So, grab your loved ones, hug them as tight as possible and party like it’s 1999! And, when you’ve done that, don’t forget to head over to www.yourbristolsomerset.wedding/get-involved and tell us all about it, so we can spread the joy.

If there’s one thing I do know, it’s that as giddy as you are at the prospect of finally going ahead with your well-deserved dream day, your suppliers will be every bit as cock-a-hoop to be getting back to what they love. They can’t hide their lights under a bushel for long, so as usual; this issue is about showcasing what they do best, so dive in to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Spotlight on Bath and Mendip

Roman Baths & Pump Room

Situated in the heart of Bath’s World Heritage Site, the Roman Baths & Pump Room is one of the most distinctive buildings in the country. The award-winning complex is steeped in history, with its origins dating back 2,000 years.

Forming part of the museum by day, the Great Bath has been meticulously renovated while retaining the character of this ancient monument. It’s here at sunrise and sunset that vows can be exchanged, overlooked by the beautiful Bath Abbey. Ceremonies can still take place in wet weather, as shelter is provided by the terrace above.

Perfect for smaller celebrations and elopements, sunrise ceremonies can be followed by a champagne breakfast for up to 60 guests or 40 guests on a Saturday. Sunset vows (160 guests) are followed by a glass of champagne on the 2,000-year-old paving. In colder weather, the steam from the baths, coupled with flickering torchlight, creates a magical atmosphere. From mid-June to the end of August, evening ceremonies are not available.

The adjoining Grade I listed Pump Room (160 guests) is the ideal party space. Famously frequented by Jane Austen, the elegant room has tall windows, Corinthian columns and a glittering chandelier. Also part of the complex, the Terrace (80 guests) overlooking the Great Bath is an intimate area for events, along with the Reception Hall.

Exclusive-use packages are available for up to 290 friends and family. Nearlyweds will be treated to a free menu tasting with the venue’s caterer, Searcys (www.searcys.co.uk).

How to winter proof your nails and cuticles

How to winter proof your nails and cuticles

The winter season is especially harsh on the nails so it's vital to take extra care of them. Carla Opoku, founder of Cienna Rose (ciennarose.com) says "Cold weather zaps moisture from the cuticles and nails leaving them dry, brittle, flaky and damaged. Our nails naturally have a low moisture and oil content and therefore, can become worse in winter but there are things we can do to help keep them looking and feeling on point." Carla shares her top tips for taking care of nails and cuticles this winter.
