August/September 2022

August/September 2022

W-day is imminent! As the County Wedding Magazines editorial crew prepare to see our beloved senior editor Melissa become a Mrs, we can’t help but be niggled by at least a small sense of shock at just how quickly the big day has come around. Something, I’ve no doubt you’re all experiencing too as your own weddings draw closer.

Christmas Day 2020 feels like only yesterday, when my fellow bridesmaid, Olivia, and I bombarded Melissa with WhatsApp messages: “Has he done it yet? Has he done it yet?” We knew the proposal was imminent you see, and were more than just a tad excited! Boy, have we had an adventure together since: the tears of joy at being asked to be bridesmaids (“Are you sure you want me?”), the fun of shopping for the dresses, and the hilarity of the hen dos (yes plural, she deserves it). The past year-and-a-half has seen us grow closer as friends, not just Melissa, Olivia and I – the three amigos; but also with our gorgeous fellow bridesmaid Nolwenn and the groom, dear Dave. Weddings have a habit of doing that don’t they? Of course, they’re a celebration of love between the all-important couple, but more than that, they allow a much wider expression of love for friends, family and even fur-babies! After all, that’s why we’re all here isn’t it? I know it’s why I spend my days writing about your amazing big days and why I never tire of looking at the resulting photographs. To quote a hero of mine, RuPaul: “Everybody say love.”

I hope you enjoy the oodles of inspiration this issue has to offer. We’ve got two gorgeous styled shoots packed with ideas from the region’s finest wedding suppliers, as well as three incredible real weddings. Plus, there’s plenty of guidance on finishing your look with jewellery and accessories as well as on keeping your guests entertained dawn to dusk. So, dive in!

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Bath Racecourse

Bath Racecourse, set in the hills just outside Bath city centre, burst onto the scene as one of the area’s most impressive wedding venues following its 2016 multi-million-pound redevelopment. With a dedicated team and trusted suppliers, you’re assured that you’ll have everything you need to turn your big-day dreams into a reality. Standing proudly amongst beautiful grounds, the Racecourse offers a tranquil location with plenty of picturesque backdrops for those all-important photos.

The Royal Crescent is an elegantly decorated space, the perfect complement to any colour palette you may choose. The newly refurbished suite boasts a glass façade as well as a balcony to offer you and your guests unrivalled views of the countryside. Located just above it the Roof Garden is an idyllic al fresco setting for photographs, drinks receptions and relaxation. The Royal Crescent has room for 300 ceremony guests and 150 for a seated wedding breakfast.

The Paddock Pavilion is a luxury glass-fronted marquee, boasting a neutral design and glorious view of the racecourse and surrounding countryside. It’s fully-lined, carpeted and lit, leading out on to a lush champagne lawn. It can accommodate 500 loved ones for the “I dos,” and 320 for seated dining.

The Mornington Suite is a stunning space overlooking the finishing straight. It’s light and airy with a private balcony and high ceilings. Based in its own private building it’s ideal for an intimate ceremony with 80 of your nearest and dearest. It can also host 50 for the wedding breakfast. Finally, Bottega Terrazza is a fabulous al fresco spot whether you’re welcoming them with canapes or enjoying a glass of bubbly on a summer’s evening.

Rookery Bridal in Axbridge has launched a new exciting concept

Rookery Bridal in Axbridge has launched a new exciting concept: Boutique Tasters and Take a Look Thursdays. The store opened up on the evening of 23rd June for its first Boutique Taster event, where brides could enjoy a glass of prosecco and a nibble or two while browsing the beautiful collection. It proved to be a great opportunity for those overwhelmed by the idea of dress shopping for the first time to do so in a relaxed manner, while chatting to the experts who were happy to offer as much advice as they could. Some of the boutique's recommended suppliers were also invited along, so there was even more to see alongside the dresses, bridesmaids' attire, veils and accessories.

Lush's cult favourite Dragon's Egg bath bomb is going gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness month launching online from 23rd September and in all Lush UK&I stores from 24th September 2022. This September, it's with heavy hearts that Lush UK&I is going gold for childhood cancer awareness month.
