Lisa's brother, Rob, was pals with Dave before the couple met. "Rob and Dave went on holiday to Portugal with a group of friends," Lisa remembers. "I saw the photos when Rob got back and liked the look of Dave!" Lisa persuaded her brother to introduce her to him, and they started messaging. Their first date was to an Italian restaurant in Bristol. "It was where Dave's parents had their wedding reception," Lisa says. "We'd only seen photos of each other before that, so it was a physical attraction at first, but we soon made each other laugh, and it went from there."
After five years together, the pair had a six-month hiatus, during which they realised that they were meant to be together. "We knew if we got back together, it was the full deal," Lisa tells us. One day, while walking near Dave's childhood home, the couple reached a flagstaff at the top of a hill. "He was telling me about the area," Lisa recalls. "After looking out across the scenery, I turned back to find him down on one knee." The pair can't remember whether Lisa actually said "yes" through all the smiles and tears, but we're pretty sure she did. Oh, and they'd already booked their wedding venue before getting engaged – how organised is that? We caught up with Lisa to get all the details…
We fell for Quantock Lakes because of its stunning location, amazing accommodation and the incredibly romantic Rustic Barn. It was perfect for our November wedding.
We chose a travel theme to run throughout the day. This was seen in our table plan, which was a world map, with each table named after a country we'd visited or were going to go on our honeymoon. Our table names were on postcards, and the place settings were travel tags on suitcase-shaped favour boxes.
The other element to our day was a rustic, natural approach. There were copper lanterns holding candles, pine cones, winter florals and ivy vines. Our cake was a semi-naked creation, which coordinated brilliantly with our palette of purple and taupe.
The men wore short tailcoats in a deep blue. Dave and the best man stood out with tweed waistcoats. My best girls looked beautiful in flowing full-length halter neck numbers in taupe.
I found my gown in White Lace & Promises. It was the style I felt suited me best, and I felt comfortable in it – mentally and physically. I made it my own by removing a lace section around the bust and adding additional trim to the bottom. I accessorised with a silver diamanté bracelet.
Music is a big part of our lives, so it was important to us to have a live band.We also had a DJ for when the band weren't performing as we know our guests love to dance! The band blew us away with their rendition of Bruno Mars' Just the Way You Are for our first dance. They absolutely smashed it –it's making me well up thinking about it now.
When it came to the wedding day, we were more relaxed than we had been throughout the whole process. There were a few nerves for the ceremony, though, especially as we'd written our own vows. We felt so much love throughout, and it was amazing having our friends and family with us for the whole weekend.
