With 29th February offering an opportunity to flip the traditional proposal roles, a high-end wedding venue in Somerset is looking to offer a prospective fiancée the opportunity to pop the question to their partner in memorable style.

The owners of Orchardleigh Estate, a 19th century stately home set within 500 acres of private parkland and lakes, and arguably one of the most romantic settings in the UK, have launched a nationwide competition to find a woman hoping to take the plunge this leap year – and is offering to help them orchestrate their dream proposal on the estate's grounds.

Boasting a romantic island church, a secluded boat house on the edge of a splendid 35-acre lake, a private helipad, an 18-hole golf course and even a castle complete with an outdoor hot tub, the proposal opportunities are endless.

·Is your fiancé to be a history buff? Why not propose on the crenelated battlements of Orchardleigh Castle?
·Do they love a bit of adventure? Take a helicopter tour and pop the question whilst flying over Somerset
·Keen golfers? Orchardleigh can arrange a romantic picnic at the 18th hole to surprise them
·Nautical types? Why not take a boat out from the luxury boathouse retreat and propose on the lake?
·Dating a foodie? Say it with steak! Estate reared beef can provide the perfect proposal aphrodisiac in the newly launched Orchardleigh Restaurant

To enter the competition, prospective fiancées simply have to share details of how they envisage proposing to their partners, along with a brief background as to how they met and fell in love. The owners of Orchardleigh Estate, Chris Vincent and his wife Heather, who recently accepted Chris's romantic proposal on the estate before marrying last year, will then pick a winner, based on who they think is the most worthy entrant, before assisting with the stage management of their proposal. As part of this one off 'proposal experience' Chris and Heather will also host the winning couple overnight on the Estate in Orchardleigh's boathouse, an idyllic couple's retreat, whilst also including a meal at the Orchardleigh restaurant.

Announcing the competition, Chris Vincent said: "Orchardleigh is a venue that exudes romance. From the beauty of its 19th century architecture, to the spectacular landscape of the rolling parkland, mixed with a wealth of history stretching back 12 centuries, it offers endless inspiration for a perfect fairy-tale proposal. The evening I proposed to Heather is a cherished memory for both us – and we're hoping we can help another couple experience that same joy!"

He continued: "Of course, ladies are welcome to propose whenever they wish, however a leap year is traditionally regarded as the time when the roles reverse. And given the weight of tradition associated with a man proposing, we understand it can be a somewhat daunting prospect for a woman to take on a proposal, so we want to remove some of the stress. Both myself and Heather will be on hand to help – with Heather having had experience as recipient it adds that extra dimension!"

Chris Vincent concluded: "We're really looking forward to reading through all of the entries and to creating what will hopefully be a truly magical moment for one lucky couple on the 29th February. Of course, once the competition is closed, we'll be keeping the winner very much on the down low, helping to arrange things behind the scenes so as not to give the game away. But we'll look to update everyone once the proposal has, hopefully successfully, concluded!"

The competition is now open, with the closing date for submissions being Monday 14th February 2020, with the winner announced post successful proposal! Entrants are asked to submit their proposal dreams via www.orchardleigh.lpages.co/proposal-competition
