We talk to Paul Weymouth, owner of wedding lighting specialist Lightfantastic...

Tell us about your company...
We provide all kinds of lighting for wedding venues such as halls, barns, marquees and outside areas, from simple uplighting through to hugely elaborate fairylight canopies. We also provide all of the technical elements that go with it like audio and power.

While we work on some pretty major events, we have tried hard to stay as a small company that does big things and keep the personal touch, we will always find a way things can be done rather than a reason they can't! We have a perfect mix of technical and design ability, so we can make things work and make them look amazing, finding solutions and ways to lose cables etc is part of the fun for us.

What's your background and why did you launch your business?
I was involved with some local voluntary town Christmas lights from quite a young age, this developed over the years into something quite special and well-known locally and helped develop a stack of engineering skills - fabrication, electronics etc. Off the back of this Lightfantastic was started in 2012 as lots of people were asking us to create bespoke lighting for weddings and other events.

We still create the voluntary display each year as that's what started us off. Festive lighting continues to be a large part of what we do and we are proud to have worked on the Longleat Festival of Light for the last four years.

What's your favourite type of wedding to work on?
I love them all, but I have a real like for the full blank-canvas spaces, usually barns, where we can do so much to make the couple's ideas come to life and often work alongside the couple while setting up. We usually get involved way beyond what we are there to do, but that's another part of what's made us so popular - we really enjoy it.

What's your top tip for couples planning a wedding?
Don't stress, and choose wedidng suppliers that are specialists in their field.

What's the most common question couples ask you?
We get asked a lot for our personal recommendations for other suppliers. As we often get booked by word of mouth, people trust our opinions and advice!

How have you helped couples during the coronavirus crisis?
Coronavirus has obviously been a huge problem, but everyone is in the same boat. We have simply made sure we are right at the bottom of the problem pile for couples who have had to alter plans - nothing changes with us except the date!
