How much have Brits spent attending weddings this summer?
We all love a wedding! After two years of covid and postponed big-days, 2022 was a bumper...
Bask in the throes of autumn, as The Elder in Bath welcomes the days of mellow fruitfulness that are upon us. The new season brings a medley of wild produce, which has inspired the team to create a menu celebrating the best of autumn so far.
Autumn is executive chef Gavin Edney’s favourite season, and not only is it the beginning of game season, which of course is very much part of the ethos behind what The Elder is, but it is also a fantastic way to explore and showcase the high-quality produce that the UK has to offer.
The Elder creates an exceptional experience for diners with intimate and welcoming historical spaces for the restaurant, bar and private dining room, each with its own charming character, and all under one roof. Relaxed and beautifully designed, yet sympathetic to its Georgian roots. There are gardens and a butchery too.
The menu consists of seasonal dishes such as tartare of south coast bream, smoked eel and apple, squid ink crackers, cod roe, dashi and lemon; nose-to-tail wild fallow deer, creamed celeriac, salsify, blackberries and dirty mash; and loin of Cornish cod baked with camembert and woodland mushrooms, sticky bacon fondant, sprouting broccoli and sauce Genevoise.
There’s always room for dessert, and at The Elder, just as much love and thought has gone into creating the delectable post-dinner treats, so why not dig into a Blackberry tart, vanilla cream, salted almonds and blackberry sorbet to finish.
Bid summer farewell in style, and welcome autumn at The Elder, Bath.
