Find out about the history of Ston Easton Park wedding venue

Find out about the history of Ston Easton Park wedding venue: Image 1 Learn the rule book of Lady Elizabeth Hippisley - scientist, medic and saviour of Ston Easton wedding venue with Emma Craigie at Ston Easton Park Hotel.

On Thursday 25th April 2019, Emma Craigie (Formally Rees-Mogg), will be giving a captivating talk on Lady Elizabeth Hippisley at Ston Easton Park.

From 1790 -1843 Elizabeth Hippisley lived in and ran the Ston Easton Park Estate. A leading mineralogist of her age, she maintained a chemistry laboratory, a menagerie of animals and a medical clinic in the house. She wrote and kept a detailed book of rules for her house-keeper, which now gives us a vivid insight into life at Ston Easton Park during the first half of the 19th century.

It includes a fascinating list of every purchase made in the year 1807, made in order to analyse the household expenditure. Emma, who grew up in Ston Easton Park during the 1960s and 1970s, returns to tell the story of the extraordinary woman who saved the park from the ruinous overspending of her first husband, Henry Hippisley Coxe, and turned her formidable powers to managing the estate and bringing the house back to its full glory with the support of her second husband John Coxe Hippisley. Participants will enjoy the talk, followed by an Afternoon Tea.

The event starts from 2pm and costs £30 per person. To book, call 01761 241 631 or email reception@stoneaston.co.uk
