April/May 2024

Your Bristol and Somerset Wedding launched with issue 1 October 2007 more than 16 years ago. I managed to find an early issue in the archives and dusted it off to discover that bridal fashion had more in common with the 1990s than with the 2020s. Designs were all about taffeta, boned bodices and bags of embellishment – words I hardly hear these days in relation to wedding dresses. What’s more, it was rare indeed to see a groom not sporting a cravat and cummerbund. Today you’d be hard pushed to find such relics, let alone someone who wants to wear them! Happily though, we’ve brought things right up to date for issue 100 and bring you 12 whole pages of 2024 bridal collections fresh from the runway, I guarantee it’s not to be missed!

Wedding trends may have been vastly different then, but what remains unaltered is the dedicated industry of incredible local wedding suppliers who never fail to go above and beyond in bringing their couples’ wedding dreams to life. Without these talented folk Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding certainly wouldn’t be here 100 issues later. So, as we celebrate our success, now’s the time to offer them a huge heartfelt thank you for their continued support and crucially their valued words of wisdom over the years.

Of course, to you our lovely readers, we also owe a world of thanks. If you didn’t turn to us every issue for your regular dose of planning help, we’d be talking to ourselves! Our account manager Leah and I are incredibly proud to have taken our place at the helm of this wonderful title and very much look forward to the future as we continue to bring you the very best Bristol and Somerset has to offer for your big day.

So, here’s to the next 100 issues!

Batch Country House

A comfortable home with a traditional farmhouse feel, Batch Country House boasts cosy lounge areas and ample space. An exclusive-use venue it only hosts one wedding per day. The venue’s beautiful, award-winning landscaped gardens overlook the Mendip Hills, and you’ll find plenty of water features dotted around including ponds, waterfalls and fountains. Plus, the outdoor photo opportunities are endless.

Batch Country House is licensed for indoor and outdoor civil ceremonies. Outside, the garden gazebo is available and can seat up to 130 loved ones. Indoor ceremonies are held in the Somerset Suite, the venue’s wonderful, converted barn, complete with beams, minster fireplace and hand-crafted oak doors. It can seat up to 120 for the ceremony.

Receptions are most often hosted in the Ivory Suite for a maximum of 250 guests. It’s a permanent building decorated in a marquee style with ivory drapes, chandeliers, starlit dancefloor and canopy. There’s also a full working bar, air conditioning and central heating so you’ll be comfortable whatever the weather.

The venue offers a complimentary overnight stay in the bridal suite on the night of the wedding.
