December/January 2021/2022

It dawned on me just recently that I have just six months left until I transform from editor into bridesmaid extraordinaire! Is anyone else freaked out by how quickly time passes en route to W-day? Despite spending my days telling all of you lovely people how to plan, I have very much not practised what I’ve preached and am now panicking about getting into shape. So, it’s a good job indeed that I’m not the bride, who fortunately is literally the most organised person I’ve ever met. That being said, the bride tribe (plus groom) recently decided to hit a wedding show at the venue hosted by our sister company County Wedding Events, looking for finishing touches and bridesmaid dresses. While I’ve attended many a wedding fair in my time with my professional hat on, nothing beats the excitement of experiencing one from the other side of the fence. So, to help you get the most out of your next visit to a wedding fair, I’ve compiled my top three tips.

1. Pre-register. Make sure you sign up on the organisers website. CWE is offering timed entry slots at the moment to keep you all safe and allow you to enjoy your browsing comfortably.

2. Be prepared. Find out who’s exhibiting beforehand and make up a hit list of the suppliers you want to check out. You can usually find this info on the event’s website, but if not there’ll likely be show guide available, so grab one when you arrive and settle down with a cuppa or glass of bubbly before you venture any further.

3. Snap happy. Make sure your smart phone is fully charged and be ready to get as many pics as you can of the things you love. Big events can be a little daunting and the last thing you want is to get home and forget where you saw that incredible cake.

And now, without further ado, I bring you the latest issue of Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding. Check out these pages for my issue highlights to ensure you don’t miss a thing – we have a world of wedspiration waiting for you as always.

Enjoy and keeeep planning!

Berwick Lodge

Berwick Lodge is an imposing red-brick Victorian manor house first glimpsed from the end of a tree- and lantern-lined driveway. Set in 18 acres of beautiful gardens and woodland with views reaching to Wales, it boasts features such as a walkway to Aphrodite’s Dome, ornate fountains, an orchard and a summer house, all of which make wonderful photographic backdrops.

The interior has everything you’d expect from a lodge such as open fires and wood panelling, but with an East-meets-West twist on the design. Sumptuous over-sized sofas and crystal chandeliers bring a luxurious feel to the place, while retaining a relaxed and welcoming ambience. A sweeping staircase leads to 14 beautiful bedrooms, all individually designed and named after ancient civilisations of the Anatolian period.

Summeria is a beautifully light room upstairs in the converted stable block, The Mews, with skylights and views of the countryside. An original stained-glass doorway leads you to this room in the eaves that can hold up to 50 nearest and dearest for your ceremony. Alternatively, Mesopotamia, also in the Mews, is suitable for larger gatherings, hosting up to 90. It boasts large windows, pillars to decorate and access to a patio area with beautiful views.

The dining room, known as Hattusa, can host wedding breakfasts for 20 to 90 guests and up to 150 for the evening bash. The architectural style and elegant crystal chandeliers create a welcoming and intimate atmosphere.

Elopement weddings just for the two of you are also available here and are held in the pretty summer house complete with veranda and lined with lavender. You’ll be treated to a complimentary menu and wine tasting evening and most packages include a suite for your wedding night.
