Katy Broadway and Adam Colbourne had been friends for six years before finally deciding to become a couple. “We've always been in the same group of friends so neither of us can actually remember the first time we met,” laughs Katy. “We always got on really well, it just took us a while to go on our first date!”
Being friends first was a solid grounding for the relationship as four years later the couple got engaged. “We went on a romantic trip to Sorrento the week after I graduated as a dental hygienist,” remembers the bride. “While there, Adam popped the question. It was a total surprise after what had already been an incredibly exciting few weeks.”
Returning home, the couple booked the beautiful Orchardleigh Estate for 14th July, 2017. They chose a navy colour scheme accented with pops of vibrant colour.
Here, the bride tells us more about their day…
I wanted coloured flowers to contrast against the navy colour scheme. Our centrepieces were terrariums filled with vibrant blooms and ribbons to match the bouquets. My lovely aunty put them all together by hand.
Our rustic naked cake was made up of three delicious tiers – red velvet, Victoria sponge and lemon – all decorated with berries and flowers. We also had a quirky three-tiered pork pie!
We had cute succulents in glass pots with personalised clay name tags for each of our guests. The table plan was a wooden pallet with photo frames hung on it; we named the tables after places we'd visited in Italy.
I wore a white open-back gown with gorgeous lace edging – style 2083 by Mikaella. It was the very first dress I tried on and I kept coming back to it so I knew it was the one. I was careful not to over-accessorise, so chose the beautifully simple Avani hair vine by Britten. I didn't think I'd want a veil but after trying a matching lace style I completely changed my mind! The icing on the cake was my incredible pair of gold Louboutin shoes, which were a gift from my aunty and uncle.
We got our loved ones to take Polaroid photos of themselves to stick in our guest book, we ended up with some hilarious pictures and messages. We also had a big box of fancy dress items, which got used to the full!
Music is important to us so we made our own playlist. It took us a long time but it was great to hear all our favourite songs on our special da y. In the evening, The Treasury Band got the venue rocking.
The speeches were a real highlight for both of us. Everyone managed to hold it together – just! The best man arranged for three of Adam's friends to stand up and tell funny stories about him, which got everyone chuckling.
We wanted a relaxed feel to proceedings so Ryan Goold Photography was the perfect choice. He's a close family friend and he also knew our make-up ar tist Gemma, and hairdresser Jess so it was such a lovely atmosphere getting ready in the morning surrounded by friends.
