The (grand)mother of all hen weekends

Longer life expectancy has led to an increase in older brides marrying over 65 which means one thing.... nan dos!

The average age of marriage has increased by more than 10 years in the past five decades seeing a 50% increase in weddings and divorces for the over-65s. Number of 'silver splicers' are expected to keep growing meaning more 'hen dos' for the older generation.

Leading hen party provider GoHen.com has launched a range of hen weekends especially tailored for older brides.

The new range of hen weekends swaps VIP nightclubbing for afternoon tea and cocktails, rather than raunchy male strips shows, hens can try their hands at life drawing (with a hunky male model) or test their minds on an escape game.

Hen party activities for over 50s include:

  • Butler in the Buff
  • Perfume Making
  • Dance Class
  • Pampering Day
  • Life Drawing
  • Tipsy Afternoon Tea
  • Boozy Brunch
  • Craft Classes
  • Shoe Workshop
  • Champagne & Chocolate Tasting
  • Cocktail Mixing
"At GoHen we have noticed a rise in the age of our brides and it's not just grannies," according to GoHen's Poppy Golby. "There is also a rise in 40 somethings getting married for the first time, as well as the 'silver splicers', so our new range of hen weekends are especially designed for those brides that want an amazing, memorable weekend, without a nightclub or strip show in sight.” This increase in age of brides naturally leads to an increase in age of hen parties. So, the next time you see a hen party they could all already be grandmothers!
